| I don't know a better way to celebrate the 4th of July than watching the Yankees have their asses handed to them...which is pretty much what I did yesterday. The Indians pound them 19-1. I find it wicked funny that two of the worst losses in team history both come at the hands of the Cleveland Indians. My personal favorite was that epic 22-0 beatdown two years ago..i swear, I thought I was halluncinating when I saw that score.
Now for tonight...it looks like the Sox decided to mail it in until the All-Star break...they lose 5-2 to the freakin' Devil Rays. The sad part of it was that the game was probably over in the 2nd. The only sign of life the offense showed was a solo HR by Tek and a sac fly by Youk to drive in Lowell.
It seems like the Sox are so hard up for pitching that they're willing to pick up anything still moving...though I'm still trying to figure out why they picked up Jason Johnson in the first place. This guy is just awful. He hasn't won in over a month, his ERA is over 6...when I saw that he was the starting pitcher for tonight, I was like 'Uh-oh'. Shit, even an unstable Matt Clement is better than that >_< Yeah, I think they're seriously regretting shipping Bronson off to the Reds now... - Mood:blah

| For the most part, I'm okay with the AL team selections...the Red Sox that are going are, Manny, Papi, Jonathan Papelbon, and suprisingly, Mark Loretta. I say suprisingly because while I voted for him, I didn't think he would get voted in by the fans. However, I think Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett were shafted. Both of them were deserving, particularly Schill.
On a semi-related note, I just find it hilarious that Jose Contreras had to LEAVE the Yankees to win a World Series ring. Also, because I remember how the Sox would absolutely tee off on this guy.
Speaking of being shafted, how come Barry Zito is the only one of the A's that got selected for the All-Star team? They are in FIRST PLACE, for Christ sakes! Nick Swisher was definitely deserving of a place on the all-star team, maybe even Bobby Crosby too.
Honestly, I really don't care a whole lot about the NL team...except for Bronson making it! You know, when I see how well he's done this year, I really don't understand why the Sox got rid of him....and especially when I think about how after Wake, our pitching is pretty much a crapshoot. It is really nice to see him doing so well:) - Mood:sick

| The Sox beat the Mets, 9-4, winning their 10th straight game. I believe that is the longest winning streak in the Majors this year, and the longest for the Sox since '04. And I think we all know what happened that year *wink*wink*
It was nice to see people giving Pedro a standing ovation, especially considering the circumstances in which he left. He is still one of my all-time favorite baseball players, nevermind Red Sox.
Jon Lester showed remarkable composure, working himself out of two bases-loaded jams in the 4th and 5th. Sure, the Mets ran up his pitch count (116 pitches in 5 innings) and he walked five, but he pitched well enough to keep the team in the game. Luckily, the offense backed him up. Manny, Tek, and Alex Gonzalez of all people, drove in two runs each. Even with Tavarez doing his level best to give the game away, the Sox still come through.
You know what's especially sweet? The Braves, who really suck this year, beat the Yankees, who always suck, 5-2. With that loss, the Sox are now 3.5 games up on the MFY. Sweet... - Mood:content

| Father's Day was pretty good...me, my brother and my mom pooled some of our money together and took my dad out to eat at his favorite resteraunt yesterday. We figured that it would be better to do something like that, rather to buy him the standard cologne or some other thing he'd probably never use.
Hey, now that's the way to get back into it. After being swept by the Tigers, the Sox end up sweeping the Braves. Man, it didn't look like they were going to be able to pull it out at one point...Schill had left in the 7th with a 3-2 lead, but the following relievers, especially Rudy Seanez, ended up coughing up the lead and then some. Hello, 5-3 Braves lead...
But then, the Braves do some coughing up of their own...after Papi and Mannt strike out, it goes like this: walk, walk, Coco Crisp rips a single into left field to drive in both Trot and Tek, Lowell pinch hits for Gonzo and promptly hits a two run double, which gives the Sox the lead back...for good this time!
Then when the inning is over, Papelbon in...and K, K, K, K, and Good night everybody, Sox win 6-5. And because everyone else in the division lost, we are now back in sole posession of 1st place in the AL East. Woo-hoo!!!
Though I think Schilling still should have gotten the win...I don't get how Seanez blows a save, and ends up getting the win. That kind of annoys me...but whatever, Sox win! - Mood:content

| So the Sox game was rained out last night...which is probably a good thing, considering how they have played in the past two games. They had better win, because it would SUCK if the MFY ended up sweeping them.
Well, after that, I just switched over to watch Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. Honestly, I don't have any rooting interest in either team...I just wanted to see good hockey for once. Okay, I kind of want the Canes to win the Cup because they used to be in New England. Speaking of which, I think I have an old Hartford Whalers winter jacket from like second grade packed away in the basement somewhere. I've long since outgrown it, but I refuse to get rid of it b/c it has sentimental value.
But anyway, the Canes killed the Oilers 5-0. Man, it looks like the Oilers have completely given up. I know that losing Roloson for the series in Game 1 was bad, but damn, that doesn't mean the defense can just evaporate like that. They totally hung Markkanen out to dry...he actually played pretty well, despite the final score. The Oilers just took too damn many penalties.
*sigh* It doesn't look like the Oilers are going to win another game. And you know, I had the series going 7 games, with the 'Canes coming out on top. Looks like it's not gonna take that long. - Mood:restless

| Watching the Yankees blow a 5 run lead to the Detroit Tigers tonight was fun. Yeah, the Detroit Tigers...they have the best record in baseball as of now. Wow, I think I'm in the Twilight Zone. I can remember that team nearly losing 120 games a few years ago, two of their pitchers (Maroth, and I think Bonderman) ended up losing 20 games.
I'm sure at some point someone's said that not even God can help the Detroit Tigers win. Well, they certainly are now...and they just might be for real. - Mood:happy

| New layout for the summer...I like this one a lot. Userinfo still under construction, though.
Now I know I hate the Blue Jays...specifically Vernon Wells, who hit three HR's off of Beckett. Man, this year they've playing us so hard...it's kind of frustrating, because I know full well that the Sox should be roasting them alive, but they're just not. There's no way they should have just taken two of three from us.
Also, I think I hate Matt Clement...well, not hate, but his Jekyll and Hyde routine is growing old. Again, I think the Sox should have kept Bronson and sent Clement packing. At least he was somewhat mentally stable. You know what's sad? Dave Pauley, a guy that hasn't pitched above AA ball until Wenesday when he was pressed into service, was way more composed than him. Remind me of why he's still here?
*sigh* At least the Sox won that game. Ironic, isn't it...that they lose the other two games, but win this one, which I thought they might lose? - Mood:cranky

| Yeah, this is just great...after not having rain for nearly a month, it seems like we've gotten double our entire monthly rainfall for May in the span of about four days. Saturday night, I spent the better part of an hour helping my dad wet-vac our basement. It wasn't even that much water(about two inches), but it made a hell of a mess. And since we're forecasted to get even MORE rain, the vac's stayed out just in case. We're the lucky ones...a lot of people up north have it way worse. My boyfriend's got family up around the Lowell area and everyone's worried about them.
The Red Sox-Rangers series was pretty much wiped out by the rain. I can't help but think that all these rainout games we'll have to play later will come back to bite them, especially when it comes to the pitching rotation.
Oh goody, more rain for today *sarcasm* It's going to be hell having to travel in this when I go to work. Fuck...all I wanna do is hop back into my bed and stay there until the weather gets better. - Mood:crappy

| Sox take two out of three from the Yankees, with a come from behind 5-3 win. Could have lived without the oh, million guys the Sox left on base, though. There were so many times where they could have broken the game wide open, especially since Chacon was struggling for most of the night. The Sox FINALLY got a lead with Loretta's two-run single in the 7th...and with an insurance run knocked in by Youk in the 9th, go ahead for good. Papelbon in again, GAME OVER! SOX WIN!
In all seriousness, I feel sorry for Hideki Matsui. That was really hard to watch. Damn, and he was one of the only two Yankees I actually like...the other being Bubba Crosby. Why couldn't that shit happen to A-Rod? I'd add Sheffield to that list, but he's already out with a wrist injury too.
Oh, and ESPN sucks for showing the clip of Aaron Boone's walk off HR...yeah, reopen old wounds, why don't you? *flips them off*
Oh, and on a non-baseball related note...I really, really want that Sex and the City series DVD set. It's probably wicked expensive though, so maybe for a birthday present? Yeah, that would be nice. - Mood:happy

| Okay, he didn't look all that good early (giving up a 2 run HR to Jason Giambi in the first inning), but man...did Beckett settle down after that. He only gave up one more run over the next six innings. He was probably really lucky, but at this point he needed it...took him FOUR times to win his fourth game. Sox win 14-3
Blow outs are fun...
Hey, way to give the game away, Big Unit...I really appreciate it. Hahaha, he was terrible. When he got pulled in the 4th in favor of Aaron Small, I knew this game was pretty much in the bag. The MFY bullpen, with the exception of Mariano Rivera, is non-existent.
And whaddya know, Alex Gonzalez finally shows a pulse! He tees off on Small in the 5th inning for his first HR in a Red Sox uni...also, I think his first homer since last friggin August. Guy's usually an automatic out..nice to see he actually knows how to hit sometimes.
That was an all-around enjoyable game...any time the MFY get their asses handed to them is good. When it's the Sox that do the beating? Even better. - Mood:bouncy
